National Bike Challenge 2017

I did it! Today I finished the 2017 National Bike Challenge which lasted from May 1 – Sep 30.

I rode every single day – 153 days at an average of 29 miles a day.
Here are my stats for this year:
In New Haven I was 1 out of 5(!)
In Indiana I was 13 out of 1832
In the USA I was 267 out of 31,524

There were some days when it was difficult to get up and go riding to work at 5:30am, especially if I had been up during the night with low blood sugar. In part I wanted to do this to prove to type 1 diabetics that there really is nothing that we can’t do if we put our minds to it – I am 54 and I have had type 1 diabetes for 44 years.

Tonight I feel good!
Tomorrow I will be back on the bike trying to beat my year record of 6332 miles by at least 1000 miles…
