I am a 54 year old dad and husband originally from Scotland and I work as the Webmaster for the Lutheran Health Network in Fort Wayne, Indiana. During the summer of 2012 we moved to New Haven, Indiana from Scotland. My spare time revolves around cycling and planning trips away from the usual places. As a Type 1 diabetic I try my best to look after myself but I also won’t let it stop me going on adventures! Since moving to the USA I have started using an insulin pump instead of injections. I am also using a Dexcom G5 CGM and this has been a great help since I have various low blood sugar alarms set up on my mobile phone. This gives me much more flexibility when exercising and I managing to keep my diabetes tightly controlled (A1C is currently 6.1).
I have never owned a car and commuting by bicycle has long been my favorite form of transport. Fort Wayne has a trail system and with some careful planning, and the right equipment, it is possible to ride almost every day of the year. be very careful on boardwalks, however, as they can be very dangerous in the wet.
